bucket list

Well I guess we all have plans for our lives if we know it or not. . .  One of my major goals was to graduate high school and enter college at Iowa State University. This goal was met and now I have an all new goal set.  I have heard of the study abroad opportunities here at college, I would like to do this to learn more about different farming techniques used out of the united states to see how similar they are to each other. I also plan on earning a degree from ISU.

After college I would like to go back to my grandmothers dairy farm to get it back and functioning the way it should be, because i feel that my grandfather would be disappointed in the way it has turned out.  After that I would like to start up my own farm with crop ground and a cattle operation. I can see myself doing this for a long time. I would also love to travel around the world and visit the places of my ancestors.

I would like to find that special someone in my life to settle down with and have a couple children, I want to love and be loved and have love for my children and not have to put them through a divorce like i had gone through. and I just wanna grow old and live life to its fullest. . . Thats about it.

Hello fellow Hixsons!

I would have to say that one of the times I was at my best was when my parents got a divorce.  Many people wouldn't think that a time like this would show how you can step up and be a leader but that is what happened with me. I was just getting ready to turn 14 and was told by my father that he had this idea of a divorce, I was told not to tell anyone, not even my mom because she had yet to be told. Well i found out that he had filed for this the same day as my birthday. This crushed me, i had no idea in how this was going to work. I decided to stay involved with my 4-H group, that year i ran for president and ended up with the position. This gave me a major leadership position having to know have to run the meeting room properly and keep order in the group of kids that were of all ages 4th-12th graders later on in that year I applied to be on the Iowa county youth council and was a representative for our club.

I had was forced to go into court over my parents divorce and to testify against my own farther. I wish that this wasn't forced upon me but it was something that just happened. Well through this I had to step up around the house helping out because my brother and sister were fairly young and didn't know how to do chores.  My leadership and citizenship have both increased just because of one little thing. it has made me a better person and knowing that i feel that it has helped me get out to meet new people and socialize and build that network of people to help me out and for me to help them out if they need it. And after this situation it drives me to do my best and also want to graduate from Iowa State University with a degree witch neither of my parents completed.
